I study citizenship, diaspora, empire and enlightenment, with a particular focus on Chinese modern political thought. My dissertation, "Between Home and Homeland, Exilic Intellectuals, Diaspora, and the New Chinese Citizen" examines different conceptions of citizenship that Chinese intellectuals developed in response to global inequalities and mobility controls.

My research has been supported by the Roberta Buffett Institute for Global Affairs, Evan Frankel Fellowship in the Humanities, Alice Kaplan Institute for the Humanities, and Northwestern Graduate School. At Northwestern, I am affiliated with the Classics Cluster, Critical Theory Cluster, and Asian Studies Cluster. I received a Master’s in Political Theory Research from Oxford in 2019 and graduated from St. John's College in 2018. Prior to that, I studied Chinese Classics at Renmin University of China and was an exchange student at Saitama University, Japan.
